Sustainable Energy.jpg) Capacity Development Centre on Energy for Sustainable Development (CDC ESD) Mission: According to the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), 1.3 billion people on the planet don't have access to modern energy services. Thus, for many people the current situation with access to information about green economy is vulnerable. Increased access of this audience to information about UN activities in green economy can give the necessary tools to continue and strengthen work towards economic sustainability. Project: Creation and Development of Capacity Development Centre on Energy for Sustainable Development (CDC ESD) as VET Center for energy efficiency and promotion of energy communities On March 12, 2026 CII Secretary-General Olga Generalova-Kutuzova made a presentation "Sustainable and smart and climate neutral communities, districts and cities. Case study of the City of Isola Dovarese, Italy" within the frames of 13th International Conference on Improving Energy Efficiency in Commercial Buildings and Smart Communities (IEECB&SC'26) in Frankfurt (Frankfurt am Main), Germany. The study shows how a small city can transform its economic development by implementation of energy innovative projects. Sustainable, smart, and climate-neutral communities integrate digital technology (smart) with environmental goals (sustainable) to achieve net-zero emissions (climate neutral), focusing on efficient resource use, renewable energy, green mobility, citizen engagement, and innovative governance to improve quality of life, as highlighted by the EU Mission for 100 Climate-Neutral Cities by 2030. Energy communities are groups of people or organizations that jointly produce, consume, and manage renewable energy, increasing energy independence, reducing costs, accelerating the transition to green energy, and building local ties.
